Performing Artistes in Kogi State under the aegis of the Kogi State Council of Arts and Culture have embarked on an awareness tour of the state to sensitise voters to the need to perform their duties in the March 28 and April 11 elections.

The Director, Performing Arts, Kogi State Council for Arts and Culture, Itodo Joseph, told our correspondent on Wednesday that the awareness rally which began on Monday was aimed at educating the voting public on the need for a violence-free election and transition.

“What we are doing is creating awareness and voters’ education through the use of performing arts,” Itodo said.
“It is aimed at mobilising people in Kogi state to come out and vote and also to assure the people that the
Independent Electoral Commission has made everything arrangement to ensure that the forthcoming elections are free, fair, credible and acceptable to everybody.

“We are also letting the electorate know that the election dates are not changing and that the elections would be violence free. People are being made to know that there is no need to run around and travel. They should stay where they registered and exercise their rights in peace because the security men have been mobilised for the attainment of the overall peace and security of the public.”

Itodo however advised the voters to be conscious of their environment on the election days.
