Sokoto Police Arrest 164 Political Thugs

Officials of the Sokoto State police command have arrested no fewer than 164 political thugs from both the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and All Progressives Congress (APC) after their rampage at the weekend.

The state command Public Relations Officer, Al- Mustapha Sani, who made this known to Nigerian Pilot correspondent on Monday, said the suspected political thugs were arrested for destroying party offices and other properties, during a rampage on Saturday.

Sani, who described the incident as barbaric, confirmed that the state command has arrested over, 164 hoodlums and also restored law and order back to the ancient city.

The force spokesman stressed that the command will deal with anybody arrested with illegal weapon in the city, adding that the refusal of political party to comply with the directives from the police command as well as the ability to keep to the peace agreement the signed amongst them.

However, details of the number of casualties could not be ascertained as at the time of filling this report, but the correspondent who visited Kwanawa area of Sokoto and outskirt of the city gathered that thugs set a blazed PDP office.

A resident, who said he is a civil servant, gave his name as Malami Yahaya, confirmed that his vehicle windscreen was smashed by the rampaging thugs during the brawl on Saturday.

Recall that all the participating political parties in the state last week Friday signed a peace accord to make sure there is no violence before, during and after the conduct of the general elections come March 28 and April 11.

Meanwhile, one of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) gubernatorial candidates recently defected to the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Recall that the Nigerian police force AIG Zone 10, Sokoto State, on February 18 revealed what will happen to any political thug arrested with weapons during campaign rallies.
