The people of Katsina state came out en masse yesterday, April 9, for the grand finale of the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign for the general elections.
The campaign was said to have halted both human and vehicular movement.
Daily Sun reports that over a million people came out to receive the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari at the Katsina Polo Ground, venue of the rally.
As Buhari entered the arena at about 3.30 p.m, the crowd went into a frenzy, chanting slogans of the party and the former head of state.
According to a resident of Katsina, Saidu Runka, the rally was a “game changer of sort.”
He was apparently referring to the defection of several chieftains of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) to APC at the event.
Among those who defected was the former military governor of Borno State, Col. Abdulmumini Aminu, former Deputy Governor of Katsina State under the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, Ahmed Tukur Jikamashi.
Others included former member of Governor Ibrahim Shema’s cabinet, Nasidi Baure; former chairmen of Daura and Baure local government councils; erstwhile governorship aspirant on the platform of PDP, Kabir Barkiya and Ambassador Aisu Daura, immediate past Almiru Hajj of the state, among others.
Receiving the defectors, Buhari assured his supporters that he was committed to curbing corruption, tackling insecurity and also create job opportunities for the youths.
The political parties are rounding up their campaigns as the governor elections will be holding in less than 24 hours.
Buhari was in Lagos on April 7, Tuesday, to campaign for APC Guber candidate, Akinwumi Ambode.
After his visit to Lagos, he was later received by APC supporters at the Imo International Conference Centre, Owerri.
