Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd)
Some traditional rulers in Osun State have appealed to Nigerians to be patient with the President-elect, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), and to support his administration.
The traditional rulers, while urging the President-elect not to disappoint Nigerians for their support, also said the citizens should be patient with Buhari because it would not be easy to correct all the wrongs within a very short time.
The monarchs said this in a congratulatory message to Buhari on his victory in the March 28 presidential election.
A copy of the message was made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Tuesday.
The monarchs who are signatory to the statement include the Timi of Ede, Oba Munirudeen Lawal; Akinrun of Ikirun, Oba Olayiwola Olawale; Olunisa of Inisa, Oba Joseph Oladunjoye Fasikun II; Elende of Eko-Ende, Oba Rauf Adebayo Olaniyan; Oloyan of Oyan, Oba Kelani Adekeye Oyedare; and the Onirun of Oke-Irun, Oba Adetoyi Adetunlurese.
Others are the Olokuku of Okuku, Oba Abioye Oluronke II; Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi and the Elerin of Erin-Osun, Oba Yusuf Oyagbodun.
The traditional rulers, who had before the election denied being among their colleagues who allegedly collected dollar bribes from President Goodluck Jonathan, reminded Buhari to help the nation recapture her lost glory.
They said, “We urge all Nigerians to be ready to work with Buhari and his team to deliver and perform to our expectations.
“People should know that it requires patience and support on their part to make the nation get back on track and become great even though we know that Buhari through his track record is capable of making things work again in Nigeria.
“Nigerians cannot wait to put the issues of insecurity brought about by the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram; the epileptic power supply, poor economy and non performance of the national budget, among others, behind them and begin to experience a new lease of life as a nation.”
The monarchs also commended Jonathan for accepting defeat even before Buhari was announced as the winner of the poll.
They also commended the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, and officials of the commission for conducting a credible election.
