In its April 3 message the Peoples Democratic Party urged Nigerians to use Good Friday and Easter to pray for peace and understanding.
To be more specific, the party charged people to “use the period to imbibe the spirit of love, forgiveness and good neighbourliness especially given the success already achieved by the PDP administration in the fight against terrorism in the land”.
The statement was signed by Olisa Metuh, PDP national publicity secretary, and made public on Friday on its Facebook page.
“The PDP is happy that the nation is celebrating this Easter in an atmosphere of peace principally inspired by the forthrightness and humility of President Goodluck Jonathan and the commitment of our great party to national unity and integration. We earnestly pray that this peace and the victory over insurgency by our government would be sustained.
“It is indeed gladdening that with this success in the fight against terrorism and the liberating of seized territories, our citizens in the northeast are joining their brothers and sisters in other parts of the country in celebrating Easter with the joy and divine assurance the resurrection of Jesus Christ brought to mankind.”
The PDP also noted the achievements of its administration in economy and added that the country was ready to rise up to the new level of prosperity.
In conclusion, the party prayed Easter blessings on all Nigerians and peaceful governorship and state assembly elections.
Abba Moro, the Minister of Interior, had previously declared April 3, Good Friday, and April 6, Easter Monday, public holidays.
