Man United’s class defensive record proves Van Gaal is right to forget about defender transfers

Many Manchester United fans have questioned Louis van Gaal’s refusal to sign a central defender this summer but does this incredible stat prove that the Red Devils don’t need a new centre-back?

Van Gaal’s famous ‘philosophy’ is supposed to be built on free-flowing attacking football but it will come as a huge surprise to most that the Dutchman’s side have the best defensive record in the Premier League in the last 30 matches played.

The club were heavily interested in signing Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos until he signed a new contract this week but by the looks of things, they may not need him after all.

A shaky start meant United had just 13 points after ten games but since that point the Red Devils have conceded the fewest goals in the league, while they’ve kept two clean sheets so far this season.
