Ndigbara, who anchors Amaechi’s programme within and outside Government House, Port Harcourt, was kidnapped on Sunday while preparing for an All Progressives Congress rally in Kaani community, Khana Local Government Area. It was gathered that Ndigbara, who is popularly called Freddie by Government House workers, was accosted and forced into a waiting car by his captors. The hoodlums, according to an eyewitness, had stormed the rally with a red Toyota Highlander sports utility vehicle, made a quick search for their target before forcing him into the car. But a source in Khana Local Government Area told our correspondent that Ndigbara kidnappers swore not to allow their victim go unless the sum of N100 million was paid. APC manifesto unrealistic – PDP

National Publicity Secretary, Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Olisa Metuh The national leadership of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party has said the electoral promises made to Nigerians by the main opposition political party, the All Progressives Congress are not realistic. It, therefore, urged Nigerians to discard them, saying there was no way the APC Presidential Candidate, Maj.Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.) would fulfill such promises if elected. It also accused the APC of deceiving Nigerians in a bid to win votes, saying the APC had formed the habit of “one day, one lie”. The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Olisa Metuh, stated this at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday. He said the PDP had performed well with its present programmes for the nation, and that the APC can never match what the PDP had done for the country in the last 16 years. Metuh insisted that the promise of monthly stipend to unemployed youths by the APC in relation to its cost on the finances of th...

Zimbabwe deports 179 Ethiopians

Zimbabwe has deported 179 Ethiopians who illegally entered into the country in October last year, state media reported Wednesday. The 179 Ethiopians, aged between 15 and 28, pleaded guilty to contravening the country’s immigration laws when they appeared before Harare Magistrate Tendai Mahwe this week, the Herald newspaper reported. The magistrate warned and cautioned the group before handing them to the immigration department for immediate deportation. The Ethiopians, who pleaded to be granted asylum, claimed they were running away from political violence back home. The magistrate, however, advised them to seek proper documents first before coming. Zimbabwe has a refugee camp that provides shelter to immigrants mostly from the horn of Africa.

Budget: Senate settles for $52 oil benchmark

Senate President, David Mark The Senate on Tuesday at an executive session settled for $52 per barrel as the oil price benchmark for the 2015 budget proposal. This is against the $65 per barrel the executive submitted to the two chambers of the National Assembly in December last year. A senator, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday. President Goodluck Jonathan had through three different Medium Term Expenditure Framework and Strategy Papers forwarded to the National Assembly before submitting the entire 2015 budget profile, proposed $77, $73 and $65 as the benchmark price. The Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had presented a national budget estimate of N4.357tn to the National Assembly late last year based on projected oil production of 2.2 million barrels per day. CAN received N7bn bribe, Borno pastor insists

CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor Borno State-based pastor, Kallamu Musa-Dikwa, who accused the Christians Association of Nigeria of collecting N7bn bribe from President Goodluck Jonathan to campaign against the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate in the March 28 election, has insisted that the CAN collected the said amount. Musa-Dikwa on Monday in Kaduna insisted that the Jonathan government gave CAN N7bn to campaign against the APC candidate, Maj. Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.). He however said that neither Jonathan nor Buhari was fit to govern the country. The cleric said CAN collected N7bn from Jonathan and not N6bn as alleged by the Rivers State governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, who is also the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Organisation. Amaechi had alleged that unnamed leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party paid N6bn to Christian clerics to campaign against the APC. The allegation has caused uproar among the Christian community, with the P...

Security sources said more covert intelligence officers have been deployed in strategic parts of the FCT, including motor parks, shopping malls, markets and other public places to frustrate any plot to replicate the Kano and Potiskum bombings in Abuja. “The security agencies have been on red alert following the bombings in Kano and Yobe States; we won’t be caught unawares again. We have deployed men on covert operations to important places, but I can’t give much details for strategic reasons,” a security officer said. Our correspondent observed many police teams patrolling different parts of the city and maintaining studious watch and inspection of passing motorists. Different ar...

Baraje has since left the party and he is now a chieftain of the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress. While declaring his leaving the party, Obasanjo had asked the Chairman of the PDP in his ward at Abeokuta, Mr. Usman Oladunjoye, to tear his membership card. Commenting on Obasanjo’s action, the National Secretary of the party, Dr. Wale Oladipo, said the card had been changed. Oladipo spoke during a courtesy call on him by some students, who claimed to be working for the re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan. He said the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, and himself signed the current cards be...

APC, lawyers attack Jonathan over 90-hectare farmland

President Goodluck Jonathan The All Progressives Congress and some lawyers have faulted President Goodluck Jonathan’s acquisition of 90.04 hectares of farmland at the Aviation Village in Abuja barely seven months after he was sworn into office. They said his action was a clear breach of the provisions of section 138 and 5th Schedule of the 1999 Constitution, Parts 1 and 2. The APC, in a statement on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Lai Mohammed, therefore asked Jonathan to apologise for abusing his office and engaging in corrupt practices by acquiring the farmland as a sitting President. It said nothing could justify the indiscretion exhibited by the President in acquiring such a swath as contained in a newspaper advert which had yet to be refuted by him. A group, the Purpose Driven Initiative, had in the advertorial claimed that Jonathan incorporated Ebele Integrated Farms Limited which he used to acquire the land. The APC said the claim by the President’s apolo...

Did Jega Try To Deceive Nigerians?

But Simon has one thing going for him, he says it like it is, without minding whose ox is gored. In this piece about the Independent Electoral Commission’s (INEC) boss, Professor Attahiru Jega, Ateba digs deep and tells us, with facts, how Jega and his team at INEC were not prepared for the elections which were re-scheduled two weeks back. Ateba published the article on his website, www.simonateba.com. Article Highlights – There were about four million Nigerians for whom the PVCs had not even been produced. – INEC was not ready and lied to the nation only to portray security chiefs in bad light. – Until he redeems his image, Jega will be seen as a liar who had an agenda. Yoruba Obas To Support Jonathan With Condition

As part of last efforts to win the March 28 elections, President Goodluck Jonathan is set to sign an undertaking with leaders of the South-West. He has also appealed to traditional rulers from the geo-political zone to support him in his desire to be re-elected. Investigations by our correspondents showed that the plea was the thrust of Jonathan’s message to the traditional rulers when he met with them behind closed doors on Friday and Saturday. According to the thinking of the Peoples Democratic Party top echelon and campaign organisation, for President Jonathan to emerge winner in the rescheduled polls, he needs to win the South-West which is the geo-political zone with the second largest number of voters. It has over 13 million voters. The North-West, where the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj.Gen Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), hails from, is the largest geo-political zone with not less than 18 million registered voters. SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the recent ...

Fayose needs medical help – Buhari campaigners

The Buhari Support Organisation has said Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, needs medical help to cure him of his negative obsession with the All Progressives Congress Presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari(retd.). Director of Media and Information Technology of the BSO, Dr. Chidia Maduekwe, who trained as a medical doctor, said this in response to Fayose’s claim that Buhari was too frail to govern Nigeria. According to him, ordinarily the BSO would have ignored his claims as the ranting of a threatened species of a drowning politician but because the governor was a leader of the party in the South-West geo-political zone, it would be difficult to ignore him. Madukwe said, “The Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, is suffering from what we call in medicine obsessive compulsive disorder, based on an appetite and a wish to see General Muhammadu Buhari dead. “He is a psychopath, whose obsession has alter his sense of rational analysis of si...

Senate laments poor broadband services

The Senate on Monday described as worrisome, the poor access of Nigerians to broadband internet services despite the number of undersea cables running across the country and the huge investment channeled into the project. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Communications, Senator Gilbert Nnaji, made the observation when the Executive Vice Chairman, Nigerian Communications Commission, Dr. Eugene Juwah, led the management team of his agency to defend its 2015 budget proposal. He said the directive by the Central Bank of Nigeria to the telecommunications operators to source foreign exchange only through the interbank has constrained their efficiency level and hampared their expantionary drive with its attendant effect on quality of services. The senator noted that there was a remarkable improvement on...

Okah said, “When I read the report, I called Dr. Okoye, who is the Aso Rock Pastor when Obasanjo was president to find out the veracity of the newspaper reports and he said it was not true. “I call on those making such allegat...

Fayose spending Ekiti money on anti-Buhari campaign – APC

The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of mismanaging the state fund by spending on non- profitable ventures including the hate campaign against its presidential candidate, Gen. Muhamadu Buhari (retd.). The party said the Governor was only trying to divert the attention of Nigerians from his alleged fraudulent victory as revealed in the leaked audio tape. In a statement by the state Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the APC berated the governor for lack of focus on development issues. With her single ‘You are my Fire’ she seems to have an ace up her sleeves to set the wheel of fame rolling for her. Already, people have been talking about her latest effort which some see not only as a big deal but something that says a little about the enigmatic Sefiya who confessed to Potpourri she’s a very private person in spite of her outlandish lifestyle. Telling Potpourri what works for her, she revealed a bit of the person beneath the act people have come to know and embrace. “ Everything works for me. You look at somebody and what you like about that person might not be what somebody else would like. Someone can like the way I dance, while another might just like my voice. I can’t be like Maheeda; I am just a funky person that loves to keep it funky and sexy,” she explained.
